Funding cuts from the Global North have created mounting pressures and practical constraints for global health research and publishing. However, this challenging context can also open opportunities for researchers from the Global South to take greater leadership in setting research agendas and strengthening capacity building. At the same time, the growing use of AI is reshaping the research and publication landscape, introducing new expectations for how work is prepared and reviewed. In this context, the APRU Global Health Program, in partnership with the Lancet Group, convenes a workshop on scientific publishing in the evolving global health landscape.
This two-hour workshop will feature two lectures. The first, delivered by Dr Jie Cai, Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet Regional Health—Western Pacific, will introduce the Lancet journal portfolio, explain what Lancet journals look for in submitted manuscripts and how studies/review articles are commissioned. She will also share information about the resources available to authors and reviewers. Dr Cai will also share the vision and mission of The Lancet Regional Health—Western Pacific.
The second lecture, by Dr Pingyue Jin, Senior Editor of The Lancet Global Health, will outline the journal’s scope and editorial process, and provide practical guidance for authors and peer reviewers working in the field of global health. She will also provide a brief update on policies regarding AI use within the Lancet Group. Then, there will be an open Q&A session.
